Izzy's mom, Madeleine, and maternal grandmother, Eleanor, are French. They immigrated to the US when Madeleine was in middle school. They had moved there with Izzy's American maternal grandfather, Dwight Hamilton, when he decided he wanted to be closer to family in NYC.

Madeleine and Eleanor also had plenty of family in the States already. Eleanor's maternal grandparents were two American emigrants who met each other in Paris in the 1920s. The family jokingly refers to this international exchange as the Franco-American Shuffle. 

There are currently no plans for any of the family to emigrate to France. For the time being, that dance is over.
