The jets on Izzy aren't really jets in a traditional sense. They're channeling the star's energy in order to enable Izzy to fly. It's a lot like how the Mallet is able to fly because of its energy. It's way less dangerous than strapping rockets to a suit. Though I wouldn't call it completely safe. It's still experimental and it's not like there were test pilots before this.
