I think one could almost say there were times when Izzy seemed more machine than woman. Luckily, she wasn't awake for the extraction process as it would've been extremely painful. The toll the fusion took on her body is more apparent under the bandages. I think at some point we'll see that. The bandages are working to minimize the extent of that damage though.
The crew came across her by chance. They were on the look out for wielders and Izzy's signature popped up out of nowhere. When they got there the only thing they could find was what looked like a small piece of space junk. They were surprised when the space junk showed vital signs. They discovered the space junk contained a young woman barely clinging to life. They definitely weren't expecting the space junk to be part of her.
If it had been too much later Izzy definitely would not have survived long enough for another ship to pop up. Not that any other ship would've even noticed her. Or come at all even. Izzy's extremely fortunate that anyone was near enough to detect her. It can be easy to miss things out here.
